1. Who We Are
Wimberley Buzz (“Wimberley Buzz,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a local news and community information site serving Wimberley, Texas and the surrounding Hays County area. Wimberley Buzz is owned and operated by Diffyweb LLC, which also operates other sites in the Town Buzz network.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from visitors to wimberleybuzz.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
2. Scope
This policy covers the Wimberley Buzz website and our email newsletter. It does not cover:
- Third-party websites we link to, including the sites of businesses and organizations we cover or that advertise with us.
- Our pages on social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook and Instagram. Those platforms collect information under their own privacy policies. When you interact with our social media pages, the platform’s policy governs that interaction, and we only receive the aggregate information the platform chooses to give us.
3. Information You Give Us Directly
Newsletter signup. Your email address, and your name if you provide it. We use an email service provider to send our newsletter.
Comments and accounts. If you create an account or post a comment, we collect the display name, email address, and any password or profile information you provide. Anything you post publicly (i.e. your comment text and display name) is visible to other visitors and may be indexed by search engines. Do not put anything in a public comment you would not want indexed.
Event and business submissions. If you submit an event, business listing, news tip, photo, or announcement, we collect the contact information and content you send us. Submitted content is intended for publication, and we may publish it, edit it for length, style, or accuracy, or decline to publish it. See our Terms of Use for the license you grant us when you submit content.
Direct correspondence. If you email us or fill out a contact form, we keep the message and your contact details so we can respond and maintain a record.
4. Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the site, we and our service providers automatically collect:
- IP address and general location derived from it (typically city or region, not a precise location)
- Browser type, device type, and operating system
- Pages viewed, time spent, and links clicked
- The referring website or ad that sent you to us
- Date and time of your visit
We collect this through server logs, analytics tools, and cookies and similar technologies.
We do not collect precise geolocation data (such as GPS coordinates) from your device.
5. Cookies, Pixels, and Similar Technologies
We use cookies, web beacons, pixels, and similar storage technologies (including but not limited to technologies provided by third parties such as Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook)) to collect or receive information from this website and elsewhere on the internet.
We use the Meta Pixel. Wimberley Buzz advertises on Facebook and Instagram to reach local readers. The Meta Pixel is a piece of code on our site that tells Meta when a visitor arrives from one of our ads or takes an action such as subscribing to the newsletter. This allows us to measure whether our advertising is working and to show ads to people who have visited our site or who resemble our existing readers. The pixel sets cookies including _fbp and _fbc and transmits information such as your IP address, browser details, and the pages you visited to Meta.
We also use Google Analytics 4 and other analytics platforms to understand which stories and sections readers use, so we can cover the community better.
You can control non-essential cookies, including advertising cookies, through the cookie banner shown on your first visit and through the “Cookie Settings” link in our footer. For a full description of the specific cookies we set, their purposes, and their durations, see our Cookie Policy.
You can also:
- Adjust your Meta ad preferences at facebook.com/adpreferences/ad_settings
- Use your browser settings to block or delete cookies
- Enable a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in a supporting browser, which we honor as an opt-out of targeted advertising
6. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Publish local news, events, and community information
- Send our newsletter to people who asked for it
- Operate and moderate comments and user accounts
- Review and publish reader submissions
- Measure and improve our journalism and our website
- Advertise Wimberley Buzz on Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms, and measure whether that advertising works
- Sell and serve local advertising and sponsorships, and report performance to advertisers in aggregate
- Respond to your questions
- Detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use
7. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information for money.
Some privacy laws define “sale” or “targeted advertising” broadly enough to include the sharing that happens through advertising pixels like the Meta Pixel. Out of caution, we treat our use of advertising technologies as activity you are entitled to opt out of. See Section 8.
We share information with:
- Service providers who work on our behalf: our website host, email newsletter platform, analytics provider, comment system, and similar vendors. They may use the information only to perform services for us.
- Meta Platforms, Inc., through the Meta Pixel, as described in Section 5.
- Advertisers, in aggregate and de-identified form only. For example, how many people saw or clicked an ad. We do not give advertisers your email address or identify individual readers to them.
- Law enforcement or others, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, necessary to protect the rights or safety of any person, or necessary to investigate fraud or abuse.
- A successor, if Diffyweb LLC or Wimberley Buzz is sold, merged, or reorganized. We will note any resulting change to this policy.
8. Your Choices and Rights
Newsletter. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us and we will remove you.
Cookies and targeted advertising. Use the cookie banner or the “Cookie Settings” link in our footer, or enable Global Privacy Control in your browser.
Comments and accounts. You can edit or request deletion of your account and comments by contacting us. Note that if others have quoted or replied to your comment, we may not be able to remove all traces of it.
Requests about your information. Regardless of where you live, you may ask us to:
- Confirm whether we process personal data about you and provide a copy of it
- Correct inaccurate personal data
- Delete personal data we hold about you
- Stop using your personal data for targeted advertising
To make a request, email privacy@wimberleybuzz.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” We will respond within 45 days and may extend that once by another 45 days if the request is complex, in which case we will tell you why. We may need to verify your identity before acting, usually by confirming you control the email address associated with the data.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Texas residents: If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision within a reasonable time. We will respond to the appeal within 60 days. If we deny the appeal, we will provide you a method to contact the Texas Attorney General to submit a complaint.
9. Children
Wimberley Buzz is a general-audience local news site. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Accounts and comments require users to be at least 13 years old. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at privacy@wimberleybuzz.com and we will delete it.
10. How Long We Keep Information
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so we don’t re-add you
- Comments and accounts: as long as the account is active, or until you ask us to delete it
- Published submissions: indefinitely, as part of the community’s news archive
- Analytics and log data: typically 26 months, per our analytics provider’s retention setting
- Correspondence: typically three years
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls on our publishing system, and vendors who maintain their own security programs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Links to Other Sites
Our stories, listings, and ads link to other websites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Read their policies before giving them information.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. If we make a material change, we will update the “Last Updated” date above and post a notice on the site for at least 30 days. Your continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
