If you’re just beginning, don’t feel like you need to sign your child up for everything at once.
A good starting point is to:
- Visit the Wimberley Village Library. It’s one of the easiest places to discover homeschool-friendly classes and meet other homeschooling families.
- Join a few local homeschool Facebook groups. This is where many park days, field trips and informal meetups are organized.
- Decide whether you want a co-op or enrichment program. Some families want structured classes one or two days a week; others don’t.
- Choose one or two activities. Dance, theatre, martial arts, horseback riding, art, sports and nature programs can all provide PE, electives and social time.
- Give yourself time to find your people. A lot of the Wimberley homeschool community is built through friendships and word of mouth.
Homeschooling in Texas: What Parents Should Know
Texas is a relatively homeschool-friendly state. Homeschools are not registered, approved or accredited by the Texas Education Agency.
Texas homeschool instruction must be conducted in a bona fide manner using a written curriculum that includes:
- Reading
- Spelling
- Grammar
- Mathematics
- Good citizenship
Families are not required to submit their curriculum to the state for approval.
If your child is currently enrolled in public school, you will need to formally withdraw them. Written notification to the school is sufficient; parents are not required to appear in person or present their homeschool curriculum for review.

Wimberley Village Library
If you’re new to homeschooling in Wimberley, this is where we would start.
The Wimberley Village Library is one of the best places in town for homeschool families to connect with one another while also finding educational activities.
The library offers regular youth and teen programming throughout the year, along with books, digital resources, activities, special events and educational programs.
Because many programs take place during the week, homeschool families naturally cross paths here. You may meet another homeschool parent at a class and suddenly find out about a park meetup, field trip or group you didn’t even know existed.
Homeschool tip: Check the library’s event calendar regularly. Programs change throughout the year.
Homeschool Groups, Co-ops & Learning Support
Wimberley Christian Homeschool Community
Wimberley Christian Homeschool Community is a Christ-centered, university-style homeschool co-op serving middle and high school students.
Students attend campus classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with at-home learning on the other days. Current core subjects include science, language arts, history/geography, apologetics and career exploration. Optional Friday electives and Wednesday math study are also offered.
This is an especially valuable local resource because many homeschool co-ops focus primarily on younger children.
The Orchard
The Orchard is a Jesus-centered homeschool enrichment community with a Wimberley campus at Cypress Creek Church.
For the 2026–27 school year, the Wimberley program meets Thursdays from 9 AM–3 PM, September through May, and serves preschoolers through sixth grade. It is a weekly drop-off enrichment program and also includes field trips and family events.
HippoCampus Learning Center
HippoCampus Learning Center is a great option for families who want individualized academic support without enrolling in a traditional school.
Services include private tutoring, educational consulting, college preparation and homeschool facilitation.
Weekly Wimberley Homeschool Meetup & Field Trip Group
There is also a local homeschool group on Facebook that meets weekly and organizes field trips.
Groups like this can be especially valuable because so much of the homeschool community happens informally—park days, creek days, field trips and get-togethers aren’t always advertised publicly.

Hill Country Homeschool Dances
Hill Country Homeschool Dances provides another social opportunity for homeschool students in the area. They put on the most beautiful dances for teenagers right here in Wimberley. They usually do 1-2 dances per year and the tickets sell out quickly. So make sure to follow them and grab your tickets early.

The Wimberley 4-H Club is a fantastic resource for hands-on learning, leadership, projects, competitions and community service.
The club participates in Hays County 4-H activities and offers a variety of project areas and youth leadership opportunities. Enrollment for the 2026–27 4-H year opens August 15.
Wimberley LEO Club
The Wimberley LEO Club is sponsored by the Wimberley Lions Club and provides youth with opportunities to participate in service and develop leadership skills.
LEO clubs focus on Leadership, Experience and Opportunity through volunteering and community projects.

projectART Wimberley
projectART Wimberley is one of Wimberley’s best resources for young artists.
Through ARTSPACE, projectART offers youth art classes, camps, workshops, exhibitions and mentorship opportunities. Classes and camps can include drawing and painting, ceramics, textiles, claymation, Art in Nature and more.
For older kids, projectMENTOR pairs middle- and high-school students with professional artists for a semester-long mentorship.
Central Texas Theatre Academy
Central Texas Theatre Academy offers acting, drama, musical theatre, performances and camps right here in Wimberley.
Programs serve children and teens and give students opportunities to learn theatre while developing confidence, teamwork and creative-thinking skills.
Ian Lee Music
Ian Lee Music offers local music instruction and specializes in teaching children.
Ian’s musical background includes old-time music, Western swing and jazz, and local families use his instruction for instruments including violin/fiddle and guitar.
Wimberley Wellspring Classical Art
Wimberley Wellspring Christian Academy is launching a Classical Art Program for grades 6–12 in Fall 2026.
Students study drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media and art history through a classical Christian approach. The founding program is limited to a small group of students.
Sports & Movement
Can Homeschool Students Play Sports for Wimberley ISD?
Yes.
Wimberley ISD allows eligible homeschooled students who live within district boundaries to participate in UIL activities, including athletics.
Families must complete WISD’s homeschool participation paperwork and meet applicable UIL and district requirements. WISD instructs parents to submit the participation paperwork to the registrar at the campus associated with the student’s activity.
Students participating in WISD athletics also need to meet the district’s current athletic physical and participation requirements.

WYSA – Wimberley Youth Sports Association
WYSA is another major resource for local youth sports that homeschoolers can participate in. They offer soccer, baseball, softball, football, basketball, cheer, and boxing.
Fighteria Academy
Fighteria Academy offers one of the most homeschool-specific PE options in town.
Its Homeschool Martial Arts Program uses Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to combine fitness, self-defense, discipline and social interaction in a daytime program designed for homeschool families.
Studio W Dance Collective
Studio W Dance Collective offers dance classes for a wide range of ages right here in Wimberley.
In addition to its regular classes and private instruction, Studio W specifically offers private lessons and homeschool groups.
Twisted Motion
Twisted Motion offers acro, tumbling, cheer, ninja and other movement classes for kids.
It also has a dedicated Homeschool Movement class for ages 4–13 combining elements of ninja training with strength, flexibility and coordination.

Hunters Chase Farms is a Wimberley horseback riding school offering group and private lessons for students from beginner through advanced levels.

The Meadows Center at Texas State University offers monthly programs created specifically for homeschool families at Spring Lake.
Each session includes hands-on environmental learning and a guided glass-bottom boat ride.
The 2026–27 themes include field guides, aquatic insects and water quality, rhythms in nature, wetlands, soil, weather and freshwater turtles. Programs are $10 per person and advance registration is required.

Hamilton Pool Farms offers farm- and nature-based educational opportunities and specifically welcomes homeschool groups and field trips.

Science Mill – Johnson City
The Science Mill is worth the drive for science-loving homeschoolers.
