Ask Wimberley locals where to find the best burger in Wimberley, Texas, and people definitely have opinions.
We recently asked the Wimberley Buzz Facebook community to tell us their favorite burger in town. We threw out a few contenders. Including Oldies, The Let Go, Creekhouse Kitchen & Bar, Longleaf Craft Kitchen + Bar, Neon Armadillo and Meat & Drink, and asked everyone to weigh in.
While plenty of local spots received some love, one name came up again and again.
The Crowd Favorite: Oldies
If we’re going strictly by the responses to our Facebook discussion, Oldies was the crowd favorite.
Comment after comment named Oldies, with enthusiastic responses ranging from “hands down” to “no one even comes close.” One commenter had even just tried their first Oldies burger and came back to report that it was delicious.
So, if you’re searching for a classic local burger in Wimberley, Oldies definitely belongs on your must-try list.
Wimberley Cafe
Wimberley Cafe also received plenty of burger love from locals.
Several people recommended the Cafe, while a couple got specific. The Sweet Hot Mess earned a shout-out, as did the Southwest Burger.
If you already love stopping by the Cafe for breakfast or comfort food on the Square, apparently the burgers deserve some attention too.
Brookshire Brothers
This one might surprise visitors, but probably not longtime locals.
Brookshire Brothers received several recommendations, with one commenter specifically calling it a great deal.
Sometimes one of the best burgers in town isn’t coming from a traditional restaurant at all.
Meat & Drink
Meat & Drink picked up multiple enthusiastic votes as well.
Located right in downtown Wimberley, it’s another spot locals put forward when the burger debate began.
Durango’s
Another somewhat unexpected favorite was Durango’s.
Readers specifically mentioned their burgers, with one commenter saying Durango’s was a surprise favorite.
Consider this your reminder that sometimes you need to look beyond a restaurant’s obvious specialties when deciding what to order.
Creekhouse, Longleaf & Neon Armadillo
There are a few more Wimberley burger stops that definitely deserve to be part of the conversation.
Creekhouse Kitchen & Bar, Longleaf Craft Kitchen + Bar, and Neon Armadillo were all among the local contenders when we first posed the question.
And for anyone paying attention to where their beef comes from, there’s an important distinction: Creekhouse Kitchen & Bar and Neon Armadillo both use grass-fed beef for their burgers.
That’s especially worth noting because one reader specifically asked where they could find a burger made with grass-fed beef, while another brought up Neon Armadillo in the conversation about restaurants supporting regenerative agriculture.
So if grass-fed beef is high on your burger checklist, Creekhouse and Neon Armadillo are two Wimberley spots to know about.
More Wimberley Burgers Locals Love
The Facebook conversation brought out several other recommendations worth adding to your burger bucket list.
JP’s received a vote specifically for the smashburger, while another reader recommended the burger from the kitchen at Dark Skies Tavern at The Lodge at Cypress Falls.
Shamrock also received a nostalgic recommendation for its burger and fries, and Hays City Store was mentioned as another favorite just outside Wimberley.
And We Have to Mention Took’s…
Apparently, you can’t have a conversation about Wimberley burgers without someone bringing up Took’s.
Although Took’s has closed, it clearly left an impression. More than one reader remembered it as having one of the best cheeseburgers around.
RIP, Took’s burger. You have not been forgotten.
So, Who Has the Best Burger in Wimberley?
Based on this round of recommendations from the Wimberley Buzz community, Oldies received the most love by a pretty wide margin.
But that’s one of the best things about asking locals: there is rarely just one answer.
Whether you want a classic cheeseburger, a smashburger, a grass-fed beef burger or simply want to try someplace new, Wimberley has plenty of options worth exploring.
Oldies, Wimberley Cafe, Brookshire Brothers, Meat & Drink, Durango’s, Creekhouse, Longleaf, Neon Armadillo, JP’s, Dark Skies Tavern, Shamrock… there’s really only one reasonable thing to do.
