One of the things that makes Wimberley special is how involved people are in the community.
For a relatively small town, Wimberley has an incredible number of clubs, nonprofits, service organizations, recreational groups, arts organizations and other ways to connect. And behind many of the events, traditions, parks, programs and organizations that make Wimberley what it is are local volunteers giving their time, talents and energy to the community.
Volunteers help run events, serve on boards, build homes, stock food pantries, coach kids, care for parks and waterways, rescue animals, support local schools, preserve our history and keep many of our favorite community traditions going.
In fact, the City of Wimberley recognizes local nonprofit organizations as important partners in supporting and improving life in our community.

If you’re new to Wimberley, getting involved is also one of the best ways to start feeling at home.
We’ve tried to make this guide as comprehensive as possible, but Wimberley has plenty of informal groups and new organizations pop up all the time. Meeting locations, programs and schedules can also change, so always check with an organization before attending.

Wimberley Lions Club
The Wimberley Lions Club is one of the most visible service organizations in town and the organization behind Wimberley Market Days.
Money raised through Market Days helps support scholarships, local nonprofits, youth programs, vision services and other community projects.
Market Days itself is also a huge volunteer effort. Local organizations help operate booths and concessions, and there are numerous opportunities to get involved with one of Wimberley’s longest-running traditions.
Rotary Club of Wimberley
The Rotary Club of Wimberley brings residents together around community service, education, youth programs and other local and international service projects.
Visitors and prospective members are welcome to attend meetings, making Rotary an easy organization to explore before deciding whether you’d like to join.
Wimberley Community Civic Club
The Wimberley Community Civic Club combines community service, fundraising and social connection.
The club raises money for scholarships and grants to local nonprofits and is behind familiar Wimberley events including the Hill Country Home Tour, Style Show & Market and Breakfast with Santa.
It’s also a good option for someone looking for both volunteer opportunities and a built-in social community.
Wimberley Masonic Lodge No. 1445
The Wimberley Masonic Lodge provides fellowship, service opportunities and community for men interested in Freemasonry.

Jacob’s Well Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution
The local Jacob’s Well Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution offers opportunities for eligible members interested in service, education, patriotism, genealogy and historic preservation.
VFW Oldham-Cummings Post 6441
Wimberley’s VFW Post 6441 provides camaraderie, service opportunities and community for eligible veterans and their families.

The Barnabas Connection
The Barnabas Connection helps connect Wimberley-area residents with resources and assistance during difficult times.

The Wimberley Crisis Bread Basket has helped provide food to local residents in need for decades.

Amigos de Jesús
Amigos de Jesús works with Spanish-speaking and under-resourced families in the Wimberley Valley through food assistance, education, referrals and other forms of community support.

Meals on Wheels Rural Capital Area
Meals on Wheels serves homebound residents in Wimberley and throughout the surrounding region.
Volunteer meal delivery is especially meaningful because it provides not only food but also regular social connection and a friendly check-in.
Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center
The Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center is a regional nonprofit serving Wimberley and surrounding communities.
It provides services related to domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse and offers opportunities for residents to support its work through volunteering, donations and community education.
CASA of Central Texas
CASA of Central Texas serves children in the foster care and court system throughout Hays and surrounding counties.
Trained volunteer advocates work with individual children and families and provide information to the courts to help advocate for children’s best interests.
Blanco River Regional Recovery Team
The Blanco River Regional Recovery Team, or BR3T, grew from disaster recovery efforts in the Blanco River region and is part of the network of nonprofits that has served Wimberley-area residents.
Nature, Wildlife, Water & Conservation
Wimberley has an especially active community of people who care about birds, native plants, wildlife, water, dark skies and protecting the natural beauty of the Hill Country.
Wimberley Birding Society
The Wimberley Birding Society welcomes everyone from beginning birders to experienced birdwatchers.
The group holds quarterly meetings, organizes birding outings and supports bird habitat and the Patsy Glenn Refuge.
There are also organized bird walks and educational programs throughout the year.
You absolutely do not need to be an expert birder to get involved.
Hays County Master Naturalists
The Hays County Master Naturalists are a great fit for anyone interested in learning more about Hill Country plants, wildlife, geology, water, conservation and land stewardship.
The Texas Master Naturalist program combines education about natural resources with volunteer service.
Members participate in conservation, habitat restoration, education and stewardship projects throughout Hays County, including projects in and around Wimberley.
The Watershed Association
The Watershed Association has deep roots in Wimberley and grew out of efforts to protect Jacob’s Well, Cypress Creek and the area’s water resources.
Its work includes conservation, research, education, land stewardship and protection of the Blanco River watershed and surrounding Hill Country.
Wimberley Valley Dark Sky Committee
The Wimberley Valley Dark Sky Committee works to protect Wimberley’s night skies through education and responsible outdoor lighting.

Keep Wimberley Beautiful provides plenty of hands-on ways to make a visible difference around town.

Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District
The Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District isn’t a traditional membership club, but it is an important resource for residents interested in groundwater, wells and local water policy.
Residents can follow public meetings, educational programs and discussions about one of the most important issues facing the Wimberley Valley.

If gardening is your thing, there are several ways to learn, volunteer and meet other people who understand the challenges of gardening in the Texas Hill Country.
Hays County Master Gardeners
The Hays County Master Gardener Association has a particularly strong Wimberley presence and is an excellent fit for anyone interested in gardening while also giving back to the community.
Master Gardeners receive training through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and then share research-based horticultural information through volunteer work.
The association maintains a propagation and demonstration greenhouse at Jacob’s Well Natural Area and participates in community and demonstration gardens, educational programs, information booths, youth programs, food-growing projects and an annual plant sale.
You don’t have to already be a gardening expert to become a Master Gardener. The whole idea is to learn and then share what you’ve learned with the community.
Wimberley Garden Club
The Wimberley Garden Club brings local gardeners together for educational programs, guest speakers, field trips, gardening projects and fellowship.
For people who have recently moved here and are discovering that Central Texas gardening comes with its own set of rules, this can be a particularly useful group.
Hill Country Unit of the Herb Society of America
The local Hill Country Unit of the Herb Society of America brings together people interested in cultivating, using and learning about herbs.

The Wimberley Players
You don’t have to be an actor to get involved with The Wimberley Players.
Community theatre requires actors, directors, stage managers, set builders, costume and prop volunteers, lighting and sound crews, ushers, concessions volunteers and plenty of other help behind the scenes.
For people who enjoy theatre but have no interest in being on stage, there are still lots of ways to participate.
Wimberley Community Chorus
The Wimberley Community Chorus gives local singers an opportunity to rehearse, perform and connect with other people who enjoy choral music.
Hill Country Community Band
The Hill Country Community Band is an all-volunteer ensemble for musicians throughout the area.
It can also be a great option for adults who played an instrument years ago and have been thinking about picking it back up.

The Wimberley Valley Big Band provides another outlet for local musicians and fans of big-band music.
KWVH 94.3 Wimberley Valley Radio
Wimberley’s nonprofit community radio station, KWVH 94.3, is powered in large part by volunteers.

EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens
EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens deserves its own mention because it crosses several categories: theatre, youth, recreation, gardens, community events and volunteering.
The nonprofit hosts theatre productions, camps, recreation, festivals and public gardens throughout the year.
Volunteer opportunities can include helping in the gardens, working at community events such as the Butterfly Festival and Trail of Lights, assisting with programs and even volunteering through the Village Store in support of the EmilyAnn.

Wimberley Village Library
The Wimberley Village Library is much more than a place to check out books.
It regularly hosts classes, talks, clubs, children’s programs, games, educational events, technology assistance, craft programs and community gatherings.
The Library is one of the best places to check regularly if you’re looking for smaller groups that may not have their own websites or formal organizations.
Friends of the Wimberley Village Library
The Friends of the Wimberley Village Library gives residents another way to support one of Wimberley’s most important community resources.
Friends help fund library materials, equipment, children’s programming, special events and lectures and also provide volunteer assistance.
Membership is open to individuals, families and businesses.
Library Volunteers
The Library also relies on community volunteers for a variety of tasks and offers opportunities for teens to volunteer as well.
History, Genealogy & Heritage
Wimberley Institute of Cultures
The Wimberley Institute of Cultures works to preserve and share the historical and cultural heritage of the Wimberley Valley.
It operates the Wimberley Valley Museum and hosts educational programs, historic events and other opportunities to learn about Wimberley’s past.
Residents can also get involved as members or volunteers.
Heart of Texas Genealogical Society
Formerly known as the Wimberley Valley Genealogical Society, the Heart of Texas Genealogical Society brings together people interested in genealogy and family history.
The organization has long had ties to the Wimberley Village Library and maintains genealogical resources for researchers.
Jacob’s Well Chapter, DAR

Prevent A Litter, or PALS of Central Texas, provides animal-welfare services throughout the region, including low-cost spay and neuter assistance.
