You have friends visiting for the first time, and just one day in Wimberley to show them around. Where do you start?
We put that question to our Wimberley Buzz Facebook and Instagram community: “You’ve got friends visiting Wimberley for the first time, but they only have ONE day here. Where are you taking them first?”
The answers had a little of everything: views from Old Baldy, time at Blue Hole, shopping on the Square, favorite restaurants, art, and a drink with nowhere to hurry off to. Several readers even mapped out a whole day.
If you are playing tour guide—or planning your own first visit—here are the stops our community would put on the list.
Start on the Wimberley Square
For several readers, the answer was simple: the Square. Downtown shopping, food, and live music were recurring themes, and our own Wimberley Buzz response started there, too.
It is an easy way to let your guests find what interests them. Browse a few shops, make time for a gallery, and pick somewhere to eat without turning the whole day into a tightly timed checklist.
One reader specifically recommended Art on 12 Gallery. If your friends enjoy art, work that into your downtown time instead of making shopping the only plan.
Make Time for Blue Hole
Blue Hole appeared in several responses, often alongside the Square and Old Baldy. It is one of the places readers most wanted their guests to experience.
A visit to the park and a swimming visit need different planning. Blue Hole requires reservations for swimming, and swimming availability depends on the season and current conditions. Check before promising your guests an afternoon in the water.
If swimming is not part of the day, consider exploring the park instead. The city recommends the Overlook Trail for a view of the swimming area without a swim reservation. See the city’s visitor FAQs for access details.

Head Up Old Baldy for the View
Old Baldy, also called Mount Baldy in the comments, was another recurring choice. One reader pointed to the views of Wimberley’s natural beauty. Another recommended climbing up and leaving time to sit at the top.
According to Wimberley Parks and Recreation, the climb involves 218 rock steps and rewards you with views in every direction. Keep those steps in mind when choosing activities for your group.
Our original response mentioned sunset, but here is an important planning detail: the Parks and Recreation page lists closing time as sunset. Go early enough to enjoy the late-day light and be back down before closing, rather than planning to linger after dark.
Leave Room for a Good Meal
The restaurant suggestions made one thing clear: nobody wants their friends to leave hungry. Readers named:
- Marco’s for Italian food, with more than one mention.
- Community Pizza & Beer Garden, with one reader praising the bartenders as well as the food.
- CreekHouse, another reader’s go-to for dinner.
- The Leaning Pear, included in a suggested day with Old Baldy, Blue Hole, and shops on the Square.
- Mima’s, which received a straightforward recommendation of its own.
- Neon Armadillo, another spot a reader would put on the visitor list.
Think of these as options to choose from, not a dining challenge to fit into one afternoon. Check current opening hours for your visit, especially if you are coming midweek.
Slow Down for a Drink
One Instagram response suggested grabbing a drink at The Let Go and relaxing into Wimberley’s slower pace. That sounds like a good reminder to leave some breathing room between stops.
Jaclynn Renée Wines also came up in the responses. Its Wimberley tasting room and wine bar offer another option for visitors who would enjoy making wine part of their day.
Choose the stop that fits your friends. A long conversation over one drink might be more memorable than squeezing in three more destinations.
Add a Scenic Drive—or a Stop Beyond Town
Several readers included a drive along River Road. One Instagram commenter suggested the Square, River Road, Old Baldy, Blue Hole, and then heading out toward Devil’s Backbone.
That reader included Devil’s Backbone Tavern as a stop. Another recommended The Honeysuckle in Fischer, acknowledging that it is a bit farther out but saying it was worth the trip.
These are optional additions if your group would rather trade some shopping time for a drive. If live music is the goal, check the venue’s calendar for your specific date.
Cypress Falls was also suggested alongside Blue Hole. Check directly for current swimming access and conditions before building your day around it.
If Your Timing Is Right: Market Day or Friday Night Lights
One reader recommended Wimberley Market Day, with a special shout-out to Booth 190. Market Day takes place on the first Saturday of the month, March through December, so this is a date-dependent addition. Use the official Market Day website for the next date and vendor map.
Another reader went straight to Friday night lights and high school football. If your visit lines up with a home game, that could be your evening plan. Check the school’s current schedule and ticket information first.
A Simple One-Day Wimberley Itinerary
Here is one way we would combine the reader suggestions into a manageable day. This is a flexible plan, so swap stops to match your guests’ interests, the weather, and any reservations.
- Morning: Explore the Square, browse shops, and stop at Art on 12 if your group enjoys galleries. On a Market Day Saturday, you could make the market your morning outing instead.
- Lunch: Choose one of the restaurants readers recommended.
- Afternoon: Visit Blue Hole Regional Park. If you have booked swimming, let your reservation shape the rest of the day.
- Before sunset: Head to Old Baldy if the steps suit your group, allowing time to descend before closing. You can also move this climb earlier in the day.
- Evening: Enjoy dinner, a relaxed drink, or live music where scheduled. For a different version of the day, swap an earlier stop for the drive toward Devil’s Backbone.
And Yes, There Were a Few Unexpected Answers
It would not be a local comment section without a few surprises. Subway, the new stoplight, and even trips to Boerne or New Braunfels made appearances. One reader’s pick was Ace Hardware—specifically when margaritas and popcorn are involved. We would call that a very particular kind of local hospitality.
For a first visit, though, the recurring ideas give you plenty to work with: downtown, a little time outdoors, something good to eat, and room to enjoy being here.
